‘SHE-REX’ is the second album from Danish singer and songwriter eee gee, who cemented herself as one of most promising new voices of Nordic music with the critically acclaimed debut album 'Winning' from February 2022.

‘SHE-REX’ builds on a sentimental, important and at times humorous tale of a young woman's winding path through life crises, heartbreak and complete delusions of grandeur. And so, it begins and ends in outer space, first with the title track painting a picture of an anxious female dinosaur in love, facing the total extinction of the entire planet, and then final song, 'space anxiety' which is a metaphor for eee gee herself, now floating weightless and free in outer space like a small satellite.

"It’s about setting the right scene for the music and I came up with ‘SHE-REX’ for the album title. Rex is Latin for king, so SHE-REX must be the reigning queen or “she king”! The word also associates with the violent and aggressive behavior of a T-Rex - the most feared dinosaur of them all - so in that way ‘SHE-REX’ becomes a framework that gives me the bravery to be vulnerable, romantic, strong, angry, fearful, introverted and colorful as a songwriter. I also like the idea that my debut album was called ‘Winning’ - a sports analogy, where with ‘SHE-REX’ I'm moving up to the royal ranks," eee gee aka Emma Grankvist says.

In addition to telling a story about the infinite universe, eee gee also moves into a more extroverted sound, with room for both danceable up-tempo tracks like 'perfect 10', '(search:) how to heal a friend' and 'school reunion' – the latter being accompanied by a “bloody” Emma Rosenzweig-directed video. The album also takes on a retro-infused ballad vibe from eee gee like '(search:) how to break up with a friend', the rocking 'did you ever love someone' and new single, 'promise to pick up the phone'.

"I've been less afraid of mixing different genres and have dared to explore new areas while building on many of the themes from ‘Winning’. I've been very curious to explore the possibilities of each song and what that specific song wanted to do."

You could easily expect a new acclaimed artist facing the classic “second album syndrome”. However, it's not something that eee gee focused on much during the creation of the album. Some of the songs were already scribbled in the notebook when 'Winning' was created and over the last year Emma Grankvist has been through a hurricane of emotions, successes and failures. When she wrote the first lines for ‘SHE-REX’ she was madly in love, halfway through making the album she was in a tornado of heartbreak and now that the album is finished and ready to see the light of day, it's with a newfound calm and belief in herself. For now.

This year has already seen eee gee highlighted by Rolling Stone UK as one to watch. She supported Arlo Parks at this years’ Great Escape Festival and this Summer, eee gee has also played significant European festivals like Roskilde Festival (DK), Lowlands (NL) and Lollapalooza Berlin (DE). Later this Autumn, eee gee will be at the Pitchfork Festivals in both Paris and London.
