Wallie the Sensei

Compton melodic wizard Wallie The Sensei has returned with another sparkling, emotive new single with the Jehkai-assisted “Ghetto Lullaby.”The track serves as Wallie’s first release since dropping July’s critically acclaimed, instant street classic, GOLDEN CHILD.

“Ghetto Lullaby” is a collaboration in the truest sense, with Wallie and his Compton neighbor trading pain-rap bars about the struggle it took to move from the streets to the booth, and the glory that comes with being celebrated by your community. Over contemplative piano chords and bouncing 808s, Wallie opens with a powerful verse that illustrates his talent and devotion: “Where I’m from they look up to me not no Jay-Z / You can’t keep up with my ethic you n****s lazy / Even if you could I probably wouldn’t let you save me / I can never say a n***a made me.”

The track is a defining moment for Wallie, who has no intention of slowing his momentum in the wake of GOLDEN CHILD, a project blessed by singles like “03 Flow,” which has over 5 million views on YouTube. A true labor of love, “03 Flow” pays homage to Watts native and fellow recording artist 03 Greedo who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence. It quickly became a fan favorite, taking on a life of its own with radio support, consistent increase in streams, and glowing praise from music peers like PnB Rock, industry heavyweights, radio DJs, and more.

Golden Child also includes Wallie’s team-up with Detroit powerhouse 42 Dugg on the remix of Wallie’s own “Scandalous.” The two trade bars with ease as Wallie offers up some of his most lucid lines, recounting the struggles of success and the haters who would come for his head. With “Ghetto Lullaby,” Wallie doubles down on the brilliance he created with GOLDEN CHILD, showing that the project wasn’t a one off success, but a sign of even more breathtaking work to come from Compton’s newest hometown hero, Wallie the Sensei.
